INTERVIEW: Aimee Watkins before the first match against Australia

 Aimee Watkins
We catch up with White Ferns captain Aimee Watkins before their first ICC World Twenty20 match against Australia in England.

How do you fancy your chances in the ICC World Twenty20?

"From what we have seen so far in all the various T20 competitions around the world any team can win on any day so whilst we are confident we are also mindful that a game can change really quickly."

How important is it to have genuine six hitters in the shorter form of the game?

"It is not so important as in the men’s game whereas gapping and running between the wickets is really important.  We have some big hitters who can clear the fence and we will look to be doing that if we get the chance!!"

How’s the team morale?

"The team morale is great and everyone is fit and well.  We played well against India and we are really excited about the match against Australia tomorrow.  The Somerset County great is all dressed up for the event so it should be a good day."

The team played really well in the ODI World Cup but lost in the final.  What’s required to go that extra step and win this tournament?

"We can learn from the final but in this form of the game it’s about having a clear head and executing in every situation with bat and ball.  We have some really talented players so it is about being calm so they can play with freedom."
