HRV Cup ticket sales healthy

After an innovative sales push from Cricket Wellington, tickets for the HRV Cup have already become hot property, four weeks out from the start of the competition.

With big names including Australians Brett Lee, David Warner and Brad Hodge, and South African Herschelle Gibbs being signed, the HRV Cup will be one of the most interesting domestic cricket competitions in many years.

The Wellington Firebirds kick-started their HRV Cup sales push with an innovative One-Day out promotion. Just under 500 season passes to the Firebirds five match home series were sold over a 24 hour period.

Cricket Wellington CEO Gavin Larsen is delighted Wellington fans are getting behind the team this summer. "We were thrilled with the response from the Wellington market to our 1-Day Out promotion. It not only generated sales, but also created some very positive early HRV Cup noise around Wellington," he said. "Certainly the securing of Brett Lee and Luke Wright as our two overseas players for the HRV Cup has created huge interest in town, and I'm sure this was a factor in the excellent pre-sales secured through 1-Day Out."

Last season the HRV Cup saw record crowds, including a sold out final between the Central Stags and Auckland Aces at the picturesque Pukekura Park in New Plymouth. New Zealand Cricket commercial manager Peter Dwan said ticket sales are already up from the same time last year. “It’s positive to see domestic cricket fans get their tickets early. We don’t want anyone to miss out on the action this year so we are encouraging fans to prebook their tickets now,” he said. “With an excellent line up of international stars and BLACKCAPS the HRV Cup will be the domestic competition of the year and can not be missed.”
