HRV Cup goes down to the wire

There’s everything to play for in the last round of the HRV Cup this Tuesday with four teams still in contention for a place in the final on Sunday.

The Auckland Aces and Central Stags both have 24 points, with the Aces topping the table based on net run rate. Just one win behind them, on 20 points, are the Northern Knights and the Otago Volts.

With all four teams playing each other on Tuesday, wins for the Volts and the Knights would see a four way tie at the top of the leader board, leaving the finalists to be decided by net run rate.

Net Run Rate equals a team’s Run Rate per over (batting) minus their Opponents Run Rate per over (bowling).

New Zealand CEO Justin Vaughan is thrilled to see the competition come down to the wire,

“The HRV Cup has been a huge success this season, with record crowds, and fantastic cricket all across the country” he said.

“It’s fitting it should all come down to what are effectively two semi-finals this week. With a place in the lucrative Champions League up for grabs to the overall winner of the competition, all four teams will be desperate to top the table and gain home advantage for the HRV Cup final. We should see some fantastic cricket on Tuesday.”

The final is scheduled to take place at 2:00pm on Sunday 31 January. New Zealand Cricket will announce the venue for the game on Wednesday, along with the times and venues for the Women’s One-day and Twenty20 finals.
