Hinds pick up bonus point win

The Central Hinds have crushed the Wellington Blaze by 147 runs in their Women’s One Day match at Karori Park, Wellington.

The Hinds climbed to a first innings total of 226 for four, before limiting the Blaze to 79 all out to claim the bonus point victory.

The home side never got going in their pursuit and were dismissed after just 27.3 overs. Andrea Stockwell (11) and Michelle Bunkall (10) provided some late resistance after the top-order had crumbled.

The wickets were shared amongst the Hinds, but it was Hannah Rowe who was the chief wicket-taker and finished with figures of three for 28 from six overs.

Earlier the Hinds had been impressive with the bat, with a number of players contributing.

Eimear Richardson (39) and Sara McGlashan (38) set the trend early with a 57 run partnership for the second wicket.

Better was still to come, as Rachel Priest and Kate Broadmore combined to take their side past the 200 mark.

Both brought up their half-centuries, with Priest top scoring with 65 and Broadmore making an even 50 not out.

The Blaze will get an opportunity to make up for the heavy defeat when they play the Hinds again tomorrow.
