High five for Papps

In the last round of the Plunket Shield Canterbury Wizards opener Michael Papps reached a special milestone – to score 1000 runs against each province in First Class cricket.

When he scored 84 in the second innings against Auckland he took his run tally against Auckland in first-class matches to 1,001. He has now scored 1,000 runs against all five other provinces becoming the first player to achieve this feat for one province.

Two more domestic players are also close to reaching the milestone. Wellington Firebirds batsman Matthew Bell has scored 1000 runs against five other provinces, but those runs were shared between the Northern Knights, with whom he started his career with, and the Firebirds. He only needs another 64 runs to reach the milestone for the Firebirds.

Central Stags stalwart Matthew Sinclair is only 77 runs shy of reaching the milestone.
