Hagley Oval selling out as demand surges for Australia tour

Day two of the second Tegel Test between the BLACKCAPS and Australia at Hagley Oval is officially sold-out with very limited tickets available for days one, three and four.

With one month to go until the second Test, which starts Friday March 8, Christchurch fans will need to get in quick in order to watch the current and inaugural ICC World Test Champions, respectively, battle it out in their first red-ball series in New Zealand since 2016.

Bumper crowds are also expected for the KFC T20Is at Wellington’s Sky Stadium (Wed, Feb 21) and Auckland’s Eden Park (Fri, Feb 23 & Sun, Feb 25), so NZC is encouraging fans to purchase their tickets now to avoid missing out.

All four of the available days of the opening Test at the Cello Basin Reserve in Wellington were sold out well in advance of the series.

NZC GM Commercial Chris Smith said the Australia tour had the potential to be a special moment for cricket in this country.

“Cricket’s certainly riding a wave of momentum at the moment and it feels like the perfect timing for our trans-Tasman neighbours to be touring,” he said.

“The BLACKCAPS are playing some fantastic cricket and we’ve been blown away by the numbers watching games both in venue and via the free-to-air broadcasts on TVNZ."

“To be selling out Tests more than a month in advance is unprecedented in New Zealand, and that follows on from the four sold-out T20I games against Pakistan in January.

“Over 150,000 tickets have already been snapped up this summer and we’re delighted Kiwis are embracing cricket.”

Notes:

  • Saturday at the Tests are Dress Up Days (Cello Basin Reserve – day 3, Hagley Oval – day 2)
  • Day five Test tickets are only released if required at the end of the fourth day
