To the list of very good reasons for attending domestic cricket matches in New Zealand – add the possibility that you might just win a brand new car.
For Christchurch cricket enthusiast James Brown, this became a reality over the summer when, amongst all the people who bought tickets online to Georgie Pie Super Smash games, his name was drawn as the winner of a new Ford Fiesta Trend.
“It was just a wonderful surprise,” said Mr Brown after he took delivery of the Fiesta from local dealers, Avon City Ford.
“I’ve never won anything in my life before – so it came as quite a shock; albeit a very pleasant one.”
A self-employed insurance assessor who came out of retirement to help his family post-earthquake, Mr Brown received his lucky break after purchasing a ticket to a Canterbury Kings v Central Stags match at Hagley Oval.
“It was doubly good because I very much enjoyed the Georgie Pie Super Smash game, and loved being at Hagley Oval – which is a marvellous addition to Christchurch’s sporting amenities,” he said.
“The Georgie Pie Super Smash environment was very good, I thought – a fine standard of competition but very family friendly and a lot going on around the ground.
“And then to find out I’d won a car on top of all that – well, I nearly had to pinch myself.”
New Zealand Cricket GM Domestic, David Cooper, was delighted at Mr Brown’s good fortune.
“NZC is thrilled for Mr Brown,” said Mr Cooper. “We wish to congratulate him and thank him for his passion towards the game of cricket.”
