Gillette Cup Finals 2006: Day 2

All four teams who opened the Gillette Cup Finals with victories completed wins on day two of the competition in Palmerston North.

In Pool A, joint holders Tauranga Boys' College claimed a three-wicket win over Rathkeale College.

Doug Bracewell struck 60 for Rathkeale, who posted a a respectable team total of 184.

Tauranga scored 185/7 in reply, with an innings of 73 by Matt Golding providing the backbone of the successful chase.

King's College compiled an eight-wicket win over Otago Boys' High School, New Zealand Under-19 bowler Tim Southey taking three wickets as the southerners were dismissed for 77.

Kings knocked off the required runs in 15 overs for the loss of just two wickets, with Kai Petersen and Andrew de Boorder both carrying their bats.

In Pool B, Christchurch Boys' High School, the other joint holder, was a 200-run winner over St Patrick’s College.

Captain Brendon McFarlane [73] and Tom Latham [49] which set the basis for a very competitive score of 277/6.

St Patrick's College were put under pressure initially from left arm quick bowler Corey Anderson, medium pacer Alex Rowe and offspinner Henry Nuttall, eventually succumbing in the 28th over.

Another Chad Law half-century helped Palmerston North Boys' High School fight out a three-run victory over Hamilton Boys' High.

Law made 57 as Palmerston North was removed for 153.

Steve Martin (68) and Brad Perrett (41) helped Hamilton to 150/7, but off-spinner Scott Robson claimed wickets with the second and third balls of the last over, before a run out three balls from the end of the allocation gave Palmerston North victory.
