Fletcher seeks edge for Ashes

England coach Duncan Fletcher has targeted his side's Champions Trophy game with Australia on October 21 as a chance to put psychological pressure on the Aussies before the Ashes.

Fletcher said the win by England in the ICC tournament in 2004 was the first time his side had beaten Australia convincingly.

"From that semi-final we showed a marked improvement, we have an improved record against them and it would be nice to continue with that record," he told BBC Sport.

Before it beat Pakistan in the last two games of their one-day series in England last month, England had not won a game in 11 matches.

"That fightback showed great character," he said.

"They were under pressure to perform and in the circumstances some of the older players were now looking over their shoulder whereas normally they might have come straight back into the side."

When England arrived in India on Saturday it walked straight into a media scrum.

Captain Andrew Flintoff is hopeful of leading the side to its best performance in the tournament.

"We believe we can beat anyone, we don't fear anyone, we go out to express ourselves," he said.

Flintoff hasn't played since July but said his fitness was good.

"It's not something I'm worried about.

"I've been batting in the nets at home but I'm not one of those players who feel they have to bat, day in day out," he said.
