Fleming targets clean sweep

The BLACKCAPS will bat first at Eden Park as they aim to complete a clean sweep over the West Indies.

Stephen Fleming won the toss ahead of the fifth and final One-Day International of The National Bank Series and chose to set a total, as the side did so successfully in Napier earlier in the week.

Fleming told BLACKCAPS.co.nz columnist Gavin Larsen the team were now looking at completing a 5-0 series victory.

He said: “It’s one game away – one good performance away. We’ve got to put the West Indies under pressure.

“We’ve played well this series and we’ve got to do that again today, and hopefully we can come out with that.”

Jeetan Patel was named as the substitute, but will come in for the visitors’ innings, and is expected to bowl his full 10 overs as Daniel Vettori is sitting the match out. James Franklin replaces Vettori in the match-day twelve.

On the spinner, Fleming added: “The pitch looks very dry and the last time we played here it was quite slow. We hope it slows later on.

“He deserves it. He’s bowled very well this series. The seamers will look to take the pace off the ball if conditions are what they think and Jeets will certainly be at the fore.

Ramnaresh Sarwan is out of the visiting side with a slight injury, and is rested ahead of the Test series.

BLACKCAPS: Shane Bond, Lou Vincent, Stephen Fleming (captain), Nathan Astle, Ross Taylor, Scott Styris, Peter Fulton, Hamish Marshall, Brendon McCullum, James Franklin, Kyle Mills, Jeetan Patel (substitute).

West Indies: Chris Gayle, Daren Ganga, Runako Morton, Wavell Hinds, Shivnarine Chanderpaul (captain), Dwayne Bravo, Dwayne Smith, Denesh Ramdin, Ian Bradshaw, Fidel Edwards, Jerome Taylor, Rawl Lewis.
