Fleming set for county comeback

BLACKCAPS skipper Stephen Fleming will make his return for English county champions Nottinghamshire later today (Wednesday).

Fleming leads the team out to face Durham, which has its own international returning in the form of England’s Steve Harmison.

And Fleming has warned his team-mates of the dangers posed by the pace bowler, who is proving his fitness ahead of a return for his country.

He told the official Nottinghamshire website: “Durham has got a strong seam attack all round and Harmison will only add to that threat. It was one of their strengths last season and they’ve started well again this summer.

“But our seamers have been firing too, so it should be interesting to see how the two attacks line up.”

On his own return after a strong spell of form for the BLACKCAPS, the State Wellington Firebird said: “I feel in good nick and I’m ready to contribute for Notts.

“That makes every part of your game easier as you can concentrate on fielding positions and bowling changes rather than worrying about where your next run is going to come from.

“But you have to work to main those levels of performance. I was impressed by standard of county cricket last year and I expect it to be tougher this season.”

The champions have failed to win any of their three opening County Championship games without the experienced left-hand bat and lie second-bottom of the table.
