Fill the Basin for Christchurch

All Black greats and international film stars will oversee this Sunday’s Fill the Basin for Christchurch Twenty20 match at the Basin Reserve.

“I am very pleased to announce that joining match referee Sir Ian McKellen will be Umpires Richie McCaw, Conrad Smith, Mark Hadlow and Martin Freeman. The umpires will be rotated throughout the match,” match organiser Stephen Fleming said.

“The Wellington Legends XI will be coached by James Nesbitt and the Canterbury Invitation XI by Russell Crowe.

“It’s great to see All Blacks join the cast of the Hobbit and Russell Crowe in taking part in this match."

Cricket Wellington Chief Executive Gavin Larsen was absolutely thrilled with the response from the public on the first day of ticket sales:

“Tickets are selling out fast and there is huge interest. We are heading towards a potential sell-out of the ground which would be a tremendous result, which would clearly contribute significantly to the earthquake appeal.”

12th Man Auction

Two lucky people will have the opportunity to be the 12th man at this Sunday’s Fill the Basin Twenty20 match at the Basin Reserve.

“The 12th man position in each team is being auctioned on Trade Me. This is a great opportunity to support the Canterbury Earthquake and have a day out that will be remembered for a lifetime,” match organiser Stephen Fleming said.

“Each 12th man will mix with the players and will receive a named uniform and a bat signed by their team mates.

“Another lucky person will face six deliveries by Shane Warne in the break between innings.

“A lucky Trade Me bidder will be able answer the question they have asked themselves watching Australia play over the years – how would I hold up against the world’s best leg spinner ? ” Stephen said.
