England take upper hand

England has taken the upper hand in the third Test against India in Mumbai with the hosts reeling at 89-3 in pursuit of England's first innings score of 400.

Owais Shah (88) and Andrew Flintoff (50) led the way with the bat on day two, although Flintoff was dropped off successive balls from Munaf Patel.

England's seamers set about dismantling the India top order and Matthew Hoggard removed both the openers early in a fiery display of bowling.

James Anderson then landed the prized scalp of Sachin Tendulkar when he had him caught behind for a solitary run.

The performance earlier in the day by the England middle-order, however, was far from impressive.

The tourists looked to be amassing a large total when comfortably cruising at 326-3 but a spate of wickets around lunch saw them stumble to 356-8.

Young speedster Sri Sreesanth sparked that demise with excellent figures of 4-70 in only his second Test appearance.

But it was Patel (2-81) who looked the most in control, despite being particularly unlucky when India took the second new ball early in the day.

Going into day three, India's hopes rest on the shoulders of skipper Rahul Dravid and Yuvraj Singh who are currently the not out batsmen.
