England hit by more injuries

England has been dealt a further blow with paceman James Anderson added to its injury list with a stress fracture in his back.

The 23-year-old is in major doubt for the entire three-Test series with Sri Lanka this month and is yet to play for Lancashire since returning from England's tour of India.

"This is a huge blow for a player who has worked very hard and very long to get back into the one-day international and Test match environment," Lancashire coach Mike Watkinson told AFP.

Fellow England quick Simon Jones is also in doubt after limping off with a knee twinge during Glamorgan's C and G one-day win over Ireland at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.

He hasn't played for England since it beat Australia in the Ashes Series last year because of a combination of ankle and knee problems.

The latest injury blows come on top of concerns over skipper Michael Vaughan (knee), spearhead fast bowler Stephen Harmison (shin) and left-arm spinner Ashley Giles (hip).
