Dimitri Mascarenhas to play for the Otago Volts in the HRV Cup

Otago Cricket today confirmed that Dimitri Mascarenhas will play for the Otago Volts in the 2011-12 HRV Cup.

It will be a return to Otago for Mascarenhas who played for the Volts in their successful 2008-09 campaign and subsequent appearance at the Champions League in India.

Mascarenhas who plays his county cricket for Hampshire is a former English international who has played 14 Twenty20 and 20 One Day Internationals for his country. He is a vastly experienced cricketer who is known for his skilful change ups with the ball and ability to the hit the ball out of the park with the bat.

Otago Volts coach Vaughn Johnson said “Dimitri was an extremely popular member of our side when he was last here whose contributions both on the field and in the changing room has left a lasting impression on our senior players. Dimitri offers us options at the start of an innings with the ball and is more than capable of hitting the ball out of the park on a regular basis in the middle order. My personal experiences with Dimi in India at the Champions League were extremely positive and I look forward to welcoming him back into the group”.

Mascarenhas added “I am very excited about joining the Volts again for this years HRV Cup. We have a great squad of players and I am looking forward to playing a big role in helping the Volts win the competition again.”

Mascarenhas will play some cricket in Australia as preparation before joining the Volts in time for their opening HRV Cup fixture at the University Oval on 18 December.
