Debutant inspires India's victory

A brilliant 86 by debutant Robin Uthappa has inspired India to a seven-wicket victory over England in the seventh and final one-day international in Indore on Saturday.

Set 289 for victory after half-centuries by Kevin Pietersen (64), Paul Collingwood (64) and Geraint Jones (53), Uthappa and skipper Rahul Dravid shared in a commanding 166-run opening stand.

However, the pair both fell within four balls of each other before Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina stopped the rot with a 115-run stand for the third wicket, guiding the hosts within sight of victory.

Singh then hit the winning runs with five balls to spare, securing a 5-1 series triumph over a depleted England side.

Earlier, India fast bowler Shanthakumaran Sreesanth grabbed a stunning 6-55 to help dismiss England for 288.

Sreesanth snared four of his six wickets bowling at the death to trigger a dramatic England collapse which saw the visitors lose 6-31 in the final five overs after looking set to post a massive total.

A 92-run stand between Jones and Collingwood, after Pietersen smashed 64 off 56 balls, formed the cornerstone of England's innings but Sreesanth destroyed the tail.
