Australian cricket legend Dean Jones said that his contemporary knowledge of world cricket would hold him in good stead should he be approached to fill the vacated chairman of selectors role for the national side.
After Trevor Hohns stepped down from the position earlier in the week, former Test and one-day international star Jones has been linked with the position, and has not ruled out considering any potential offers from Cricket Australia.
"I suppose I could change my career a little bit, but I'm in the media quite heavily (cricket commentating)," Jones told the Herald Sun.
"Whether that is appropriate in other people's eyes I'm not sure.
"But I have watched more international cricket than most blokes going around, so in that respect I know who's who and what's happening in a lot of places cricket-wise. I know how all the other teams work."
The 45-year-old Victorian believes that the replacement for Hohns will be head-hunted for the job, and admits that an enormous commitment would be required by the successful candidate.
"I don't think it's a job you can go after. I think you'd have to be asked basically," Jones said.
"It's a job of enormous responsibility, almost as important as being Australian captain. It's not just about picking the Australian team.
"To be selector you've got to be a good watcher of cricket and a great lover of cricket. I think it's close to being a full-time job now."
