DAY 5: Womens National Development Results and Match Report

Play was delayed in all 3 matches on the 5th day of the women’s National Development Tournament at Lincoln University. The matches ND v CD and Auckland v Otago were 42 over matches starting at 1.30pm whilst the Canterbury v Wellington match was 36 overs starting at 2.15pm.

Northern Districts vs Central Districts

ND; 137 (Ane Swart 35*, Malorie Bartosh-Short 2/20, Hester Nesbitt 2/28) lost to CD; 138/8 (Briar Cloake 24, Brook Kirkbride 3/11)

Northen Districts were first in to bat on day 5 of the WND. They gathered a total that was not big but still defendable. Ane Swart contributed to the batting holding ND together with an unbeaten 35. Malorie Bartosh-Short bowled well under the conditions with 2 wickets for 20 runs. Hester Nesbitt also helped put CD ahead with 2-28. CD were a bit shell shocked when Brook  Kirkbride took 3 wickets for only 11 runs.It was an exciting finish with CD needing 21 off the last 3 overs with 2 wickets remaining, then 11 off 12 balls before needing 1 off the last over. Briar Cloake Helped gain victory with a well stroke played 24.

 Otago vs Auckland

Otago; 91/7 (Victoria Abbott 22, Shivani Siva 3/7) lost to Auckland; 92/2 (Wendy Horneman 28*)

Otago did not bat well today and were just short of 100 ending the innings on 91/7. Victoria Abbott achieved 22 before she too was out. Shivani Siva took and amazing 3 wickets for an astounding 7 runs. With Wendy Horneman not out on 28 Auckland easily accounted for Otago to gain a bonus point victory.

Canterbury vs Wellington

Wellington; 109 (Renee Moffitt 22) lost to Canterbury; 110/2 (Frances Mackay 79)

Wellington were first to wear the pads in the match against Canterbury and were cut short for only 109 with only Renee Moffitt scoring much with 22. Canterbury made easy work of the low total only losing 2 wickets in the chase. An amazing 79 was scored by Frances Mackay scoring over 70% of Canterburys' runs. Canterbury snatched yet another bonus point with todays victory.
