Cullen to replace injured Clark

Spinner Dan Cullen has been nominated to replace Stuart Clark in Australia's 14-man squad for this month's ICC Champions Trophy.

Clark was ruled out of the tournament after suffering a thigh injury while playing club cricket, which will sideline him for up to six weeks.

However, Cullen's place in the side has not been confirmed as the ICC must approve any replacement to a squad under the rules of the tournament.

Cullen learnt of his selection during a practice match between South Australia and Tasmania, and was thrilled with the good news.

"This came out of the blue but naturally I'm really excited about the opportunity," he said.

"It's really disappointing for Stuart to miss out with an injury and I'm sure that everyone wishes him the best for a speedy recovery."

"However, it's now up to me to take this opportunity and put my best foot forward for the team and I'm really looking forward to going to India."

Chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch said that Cullen's performance in the DLF Cup justified his selection in the side.

"Dan bowled really well in Kuala Lumpur from limited opportunities. We saw this as an ideal opportunity to continue his development at international level while also gaining valuable experience in Indian conditions," Hilditch said.

"We are comfortable with the balance of our bowling attack with four fast bowlers, two spinners and a number of all-rounders who can compliment our front-line attack."

"While it is unfortunate that Stuart misses the tour due to injury, it gives Dan another opportunity to perform at international level and we're really looking forward to series,” he said."

Australia begins its Champions Trophy campaign against a qualifier on October 18.
