County championship review

The four BLACKCAPS in English county action on Saturday saw plenty of drama but none could claim victory on the final day of their second division games.

and Gloucestershire shared an eventful draw with Derbyshire.

But Essex was defeated by Worcestershire, and Glamorgan lost at Northamptonshire.

Glamorgan remain bottom of Division Two after a 168-run defeat at Wantage Road, having collapsed in their second innings.

The Welsh side was set 225 to win, after Northants was dismissed for 400, largely due to Usman Afzaal’s 151.

But Australian Matthew Nicholson took six for 23 as Glamorgan were all out for 56, with only their skipper Robert Croft edging into double figures with 10.

Adams made only one run in a sizeable Essex second innings of 486, and he could not follow-up with a wicket as Phil Jaques, the first-innings double centurion, signed off with an unbeaten 60, supported by captain Vikram Solanki’s 40 not out.

BLACKCAPS batsman will replaces Jaques at Worcs this week.

Gloucs’ drawn match in Bristol ended in controversy after their bowler Steve Kirby was ordered off.

The home team declared at 300 for four earlier in the day in a bid to claim victory, Chris Taylor making 151.

Derby, seeking 355 to win, ended on 286 for nine, after umpire Neil Mallender ordered Gloucestershire to take off fast bowler Steve Kirby in the penultimate over.

Kirby’s short-pitched delivery hit tail-ender Andy Gray in the chest.

Gray dropped his bat and ripped off a glove and ignored Kirby's attempts to apologise.

Both players later shook hands but Kirby will be reported to the ECB.
