Central Hinds and Canterbury Magicians Take One Each

6 December 2008

Result: CENTRAL HINDS won by 3 wickets

Canterbury Magicians 132 (Tiffin 32, Sim 2-21, Winkley 2-10) lost to Central Hinds 133 (Mason 41, Burke 3-25, McNeill 2-25)

The Canterbury Magicians elected to bat against the Central Hinds at Pukekura Park.  Tight bowling and three run outs allowed the Central team to stay on top throughout the innings with  Haidee Tiffen’s 32 being Canterbury’s highest score.  The Central batsman weren’t always comfortable, with Canterbury opening bowers, Sarah Burke (3-25) and Beth McNeill (2-25) making life difficult at times. They managed to chase down the total of 132 in 46.4 overs.  Aimee Mason’s 41 was the hightest score.

7 December 2008

Result: CANTERBURY MAGICIANS won by 21 runs

Canterbury Magicians 186 (Mackay 25, Tiffin 69, McNeill 39, Broadmore 4-11) beat  Central Hinds 165 (McGlashan 69, Satterwaith 4-31)

Canterbury again elected to bat in their second game against the Central Hinds.  They scrapped their way to 186 with Canterbury captain Haidee Tiffin again contributing with the teams hightest individual score of 69.  It was Kate Broadmore’s outstanding figures of 4-11 that highlighted the innings.  However, the Central Hinds couldn’t capitalize on their fine bowling display and all out for 165 in the final over.  Sara McGlashan’s 69 was largely unsupported and accurate Canterbury bowling, including figures of 4-31 from Amy Satherthwaithe, proved to be the difference.
