Canterbury, who lost the toss and were asked to bat, had a comfortable first up win, beating Auckland by 41 runs.  Gina Hart was the star for Canterbury, holding the innings with a superb 74 to lift her team to 193 for nine off their 50 overs.  Her effort is accentuated by the fact that the next highest contribution came from extras with 19 while Courtney Buckman was next best with the bat making 16.  Georgia Guy was the best of the Auckland attack with three for 25

The Auckland reply was tracking well at 84 for four after opener Sarah Carnachan hit 26 and Maddie Green struck 41.  However, Canterbury strike bowler Hannah Malloch turned the match by taking Green’s wicket along with three other to finish with figures of four for 31.

Central Districts v Wellington

Central Districts hit a useful 175 and then rolled Wellington for 146 to record a 29 run win.  Central, who were asked to bat, had a number of middling scores with Maree Heal the best with 29.  Hester Nesbitt and Kelly Rangi made 28 while Michelle Frey struck 24.  Wellington’s bowler Penny Roy took three for 22 with Frances Kean and Tash Narasy taking two apiece.

Wellington opener Renee Moffitt got the run chase off to a decent start with a fine 58 and shared second wicket partnership of 47 with Caitlin Eves who hit 21.  The rest of the line up struggled as five of the top seven batters fell for single figure scores. Central Districts hunted as a pack with Kate Baxter, Maneka Singh and Sanika Rangnekar taking two scalps each.

Otago v Northern Districts
Lincoln Green, Lincoln

In the tightest contest of the round Northern Districts chased down Otago’s total of 183 to notch up a four wicket win.  Otago got off a great start after being put into bat with Rebecca Heenan and Megan Mason putting on 102 for the first wicket.  Heenan was the dominant partner smashing ten boundaries in her 74 of 87 while Mason was more circumspect with 28 off 86 delivers.  Their middle order stuttered before Victoria Abbott hit 38 not out to lift them to 183.

The Northern Districts run chase was well paced with the Otago total overtaken with four overs to spare.  Katie Johnson made 40 at the top of the innings with Rhiana Vincent striking 36.  The middle order of Caitlin Dodunski and Felicity Leydon-Davis chipped in with 36 and 23 respectively.  They lost a few wickets towards the end of the inning but the lower order got them home.
