Bradburn announced as Coach of NZ A and NZ U-19 teams

New Zealand Cricket today announced Grant Bradburn as the new Head Coach of the New Zealand A and New Zealand Under-19 sides.

The former BLACKCAP will take over both roles this week and is contracted until the end of the Under-19 World Cup in March next year. He will head over to Australia in the coming days for the Under-19s’ Tri Series in Darwin and coach the New Zealand A team when they begin their tour of India and Sri Lanka in late August.

Bradburn, who recently finished a successful five years as coach of the SKYCITY Northern Knights, said he was looking forward to the new challenge.

“To be able to work with some of New Zealand’s most elite and exciting players is a great opportunity,” said Bradburn.

“Both sides are hugely important to the sports development and I’m aware of the responsibility that comes with the role.

“The Under-19 team are the future of New Zealand Cricket and tournaments like the Tri-Series and Under-19 World Cup are prime opportunities to introduce them to the pressures of international cricket.  New Zealand A gives players the chance to make the next step up from domestic level and push for future BLACKCAPS selection. It’s important that we get their preparation right.”

NZC Director of Cricket John Buchanan said: “We’re thrilled to have secured someone of Grant’s ability.

“Grant is a proven First-Class coach, as shown by his successful time with the Northern Knights.

“Improving our depth at the top level is a focus for us and both the New Zealand A and New Zealand Under-19 side play a big part in this. With his experience and knowledge of the domestic scene, we’re confident Grant’s the right man for the job.”
