Bond succumbs to virus

Shane Bond was ruled out of the second National Bank Test match against the West Indies by a stomach virus.

The BLACKCAPS pace bowler, who took seven wickets in the first Test victory, was replaced by Kyle Mills at the Basin Reserve.

BLACKCAPS general manager Lindsay Crocker said: “Shane became unwell overnight and visited a doctor this morning. He arrived at the ground intending to play but deteriorated during the warm up for the match.

“Shane will now return home to recover from the virus. His condition will then be assessed before the Napier Test in eight days time.”
