BLACKCAPS World Twenty20 stats

Brendon McCullum achieved the highest Twenty20 International score in leading the BLACKCAPS to a comfortable win over Bangladesh in their first Goup D clash. He is also the first player to register two international centuries in this format. His innings of 123 was his fifth century in all Twenty20 matches.        
        
New Zealand's total of 191 for three against Bangladesh is their equal fourth highest in all Twenty20 matches. Their highest is 214 for five scored against Australia in February 2010, when McCullum scored his other International Twenty20 century.  Their 59 run winning margin over Bangladesh was second only to their 83 run win over Ireland at the 2009 World Cup.
       
The BLACKCAPSs have played Bangladesh in just two Twenty20 Internationals. Over both those matches it took the Bangladeshi bowlers 85 balls before finally collecting Brendon McCullum's wicket, but not before he had scored 179 runs. In the first match he finished with 56 not out off just 27 balls to go with his 123 off 58 at Pallekele.        

McCullum smashed eighteen boundaries during his innings made up of seven sixes and 11 fours. This is second only to the twenty boundaries (eight sixes and 12 fours) that he hammered during his century against Australia.   
     
Kane Williamson might not have batted or bowled against Bangladesh, but he became just the fourth BLACKCAPS fielder to claim three catches in a match. Ross Taylor has managed the feat twice, while Nathan McCullum and Martin Guptill are the others to have achieved the feat.        
        
There have been eight tied Twenty20 Internationals and New Zealand have been involved in five of them. With the BLACKCAPS coming out on the wrong side of Super Overs against both Sri Lanka and the West Indies during the World Cup, they have now won two and lost three of the tie breakers.        
        
The BLACKCAPS have now met the West Indies six times and on three occasions the matches have resulted in a tie, with the West Indies taking out two tie breakers to New Zealand's one.        
        
Rob Nicol hit his highest Twenty20 score and his second Twenty20 International fifty when top scoring with 58 against Sri Lanka. He was involved in his fourth fifty plus opening partnership and his second with Martin Guptill.       
 
James Franklin's fifty against England was in his first match against this opponent. He is the second New Zealand player, after Craig McMillan, to register fifty in his first innings against England.       
 
Ajantha Mendis has one of the most remarkable records in Twenty20 Internationals having captured 51 wickets at an average of just 11.37 and an economy rate of 5.85 runs per over.  However against the BLACKCAPS he had his most expensive analysis finishing with one for 48 off his four overs.  Either side of this performance he took six for eight against Zimbabwe and two for 12 against the West Indies to put the BLACKCAPS effort in perspective.        

However the BLACKCAPS struggles against spinners were once again shown by Sunil Narine, as he finished with three for 20 as New Zealand were chasing 140 for victory against the West Indies. He conceded just three runs off the nineteenth over to leave a stiff task in the last over to win, with New Zealand coming up just one run short of what ultimately would have been a semi-final spot.        
        
Although New Zealand finished bottom of its group in the Super Eights they finished comfortably ahead of both England and the West Indies on Net Run Rate. The BLACKCAPS finished with a NRR of -0.169 with the West Indies on -0.375 and England on -0.397. In fact they finished with the fourth highest NRR of the eight teams in the Super Eights showing how unlucky they were to miss out on the semi-finals. The two teams that the BLACKCAPS tied with both made it through to the final.    
    
Brendon McCullum became the first BLACKCAPS player to reach the fifty match milestone during the match against Pakistan. He has now played 53 Twenty20 Internationals with Ross Taylor following on 46 matches and his brother Nathan on 39 matches.  
      
Brendon McCullum is also the leading runscorer for the BLACKCAPS with 1,655 runs well ahead of Martin Guptill (893) and Ross Taylor (849).        
        
Nathan McCullum leads the wicket-takers with 40 dismissals followed by Daniel Vettori with 37, Tim Southee (36) and Kyle Mills (35).
