BLACKCAPS to unveil new Twenty20 strip

The BLACKCAPS new Twenty20 playing strip will be unveiled in Wellington on Wednesday.

The BLACKCAPS have played their first two home Twenty20 internationals in a retro uniform which reflects the early days of coloured ODI clothing.

New Zealand Cricket Marketing Manager, Peter Dwan, says the new strip is another blast-from-the-past and reflects another era in the development of the current BLACKCAPS ODI uniform.

He said: “Twenty20 is a dynamic, energized and very engaging form of cricket which fans around the world have flocked to see.

“The development of the new outfit for the team reflects the fun and entertainment of the game. It is different from the last Twenty20 playing strip, but another return to the past for the BLACKCAPS.”

The new uniform will be launched at a bowl-off event which will give six members of the public a chance to compete against members of the BLACKCAPS in a re-creation of the historic bowl-off against the West Indies in February.

The competition, featuring BLACKCAPS captain and bowlers and , starts at Frank Kitts Park on Wellington’s Waterfront, at midday on Wednesday 15 November.

“The bowl-off was a world first for international cricket and the atmosphere was electric,” added Dwan.

“With Wellington hosting its first Twenty20 international at the Stadium on December 22 when the BLACKCAPS take on Sri Lanka, it seemed a suitable moment to capture for the Wellington public as part of the uniform launch.”

Tickets for this summer’s cricket will go on general sale at Ticketek from Wednesday 15 November 2006.

In December and January the BLACKCAPS take on Sri Lanka in two Tests, two Twenty20 matches and five ODIs.

In February the Australians will be here to contest the Chappell-Hadlee series over three One-Day matches.
