BLACKCAPS released for State Shield action

Several members of the BLACKCAPS one-day international squad have been released to play in domestic State Shield games tomorrow [Monday 5 January].

Head of the national selection panel, Glenn Turner, said a number of players had expressed a desire to play in domestic one day games during the brief window in the National Bank Series against the West Indies.

“The timing was ideal,” Turner said.  “We have a three-day break between international games, and players will have a day either side of the State Shield games.

“It’s an excellent opportunity to give some of the squad extra game time to sharpen up their skills and match fitness, after two rain-shortened matches.”

Players released and available to turn out for their State Shield sides tomorrow include: Neil Broom (O), Grant Elliott (W), Daniel Flynn (ND), Mark Gillespie (W), Jamie How (CD), Brendon McCullum (O), Ross Taylor (CD).

State Shield competition games tomorrow [Monday 5 January] are:

State Auckland Aces v State Otago Volts; Eden Park Outer Oval, Auckland
State Canterbury Wizards v State Wellington Firebirds; QEII, Christchurch
State Central Stags v State Northern Knights; Fitzherbert Park, Palmerston North
