The Delhi Daredevils batted first and amassed 153 with Tillekeratne Dilshan hitting 65 off 51 balls. Their total was comfortably chased down in 17.4 overs to give the Deccan Chargers the first finals berth of the 2009 IPL.

The Chennai Super Kings total of 146 was not enough as the Royal Challengers Bangalore hit the winning runs with seven balls to spare to reach the 2009 IPL Final. Royal Challengers Bangalore batsmen Manish Pandey and Rahul Dravid scored 48 and 44 respectively to put their team in a winning position with Virat Kohli hitting 24 off 17 and Ross Taylor blasting 17 off 12 to seal the victory.

The Deccan Chargers were crowned 2009 IPL champions after defeating the Bangalore Royal Challengers. Herschelle Gibbs made 53 for the Deccan Chargers as they scratched their way to 143 after being put into bat. Bangalore Royal Challengers captain Anil Kumble was inspirational with the ball taking four for 16 including the important wicket of Adam Gilchrist. Early wickets cost the Royal Challengers Bangalore and they eventually fell six runs short. Ross Taylor was in good touch again hitting 27 off only 20 balls with Roelof van der Merwe top scoring for the chasing team with 32 off 21.
