BLACKCAPS feature at business end of IPL

Of the six current BLACKCAPS taking part in the IPL, four of them have helped their team to a playoffs berth with a couple of the big guns finding form at the right end of the competition.

After 16 rounds it was the Delhi Daredevils (Ross Taylor and Doug Bracewell) who sat atop of the table, followed by the Kolkata Knight Riders (Brendon McCullum), Mumbai Indians (James Franklin) and Chennai Super Kings.

Taylor recovered fully from his broken arm to be available for the majority of the Daredevils games and heads into the finals in good form having scored 55 from 26 balls in his last match.

McCullum is another player hitting his straps in time for the finals, having made five scores over 35 in his last seven matches. His combination with Gautam Gambhir at the top of the order has been a cornerstone for the Knight Riders and was largely responsible for the team’s late push to finish second on the points table.

Franklin has made it back to back years in the knock-out stage and once again has shown value for his Mumbai side. The hard hitting all-rounder has a top score of 79 in the competition this season and also provided a viable option with the ball, having a knack for taking crucial wickets.

Bracewell, new to the IPL this year, has made one appearance but will be happy with his debut figures of three for 32 from four overs.

With four players in three different teams, there is no doubt that each BLACKCAP will be fighting hard for bragging rights over one another. The first of the rivalries to take place will be between the Knight Riders and Daredevils, with the winner progressing straight through to the final.

With at least one Kiwi guaranteed a spot in the final there is plenty of reason to keep an eye on the IPL play-offs this week.
