BLACKCAPS aim to level series

Captain Daniel Vettori leads an unchanged BLACKCAPS team into the second 2005 Chappell-Hadlee Trophy match at Westpac Stadium, Wellington aiming to level the series.

Australian captain Ricky Ponting won the toss and elected to bat first, while Vettori confirmed his team would start as at Eden Park, which means James Marshall remains the substitute.

Vettori told columnist on Sky Sports: "We'd had a look at batting. The wicket's pretty good and we hoped to get out there first and give ourselves a chance early on. But it's something we're used to, chasing the total.

"It'll probably get a little slower as it goes on but it's a good wicket."

The captain also disclosed part of the game plan.

"The guys have gone back to their plans. We realise Brett Lee is a very good bowler. He’s going to bowl well and we're going to have to do what we've done in the past against quick bowlers and replicate it. We going to respect him and take any opportunity that comes along."

Ponting confirmed Michael Lewis came into the visitors’ squad in place of Cameron White.
