Bangladesh takes minnows prize

Zimbabwe's cricket plight worsened when it was thrashed by 101 runs by Bangladesh at the ICC Champions Trophy at Jaipur on Friday.

It was a result that mattered little in the overall context of the tournament, both teams are out of the remainder of the competition, but it provided a boost for Bangladesh.

Batting first Bangladesh scored 231-6 with opener Shahriar Nafees carrying his bat to end on 123.

Zimbabwe attempted to apply pressure through an outstanding fielding display but the Bangladesh batsmen, and Shahriar especially, still managed to find open spaces.

His innings dominated the scoring with the only double figure support coming from Saqibul Hasan (36), Habibul Bashar (30) and Mohammad Rafique (10 not out).

Ed Rainsford took 2-41 from 10 overs and Anthony Ireland 2-45 from nine for Zimbabwe.

In reply, Zimbabwe had only Brendan Taylor, who opened the innings, able to make a significant score. He hit 52 from 74 balls before he was stumped by Khaled Mashud from Hasan's bowling.

Elton Chigumbura hit 27 but he went caught and bowl by Hasan setting in train a five-wicket slump for seven runs as Zimbabwe was dismissed in 44.4 overs.

Hasan ended with fine figures of 3-18 from his 10 overs while Rafique took 2-26.
