Anderson to return home with rib injury

BLACKCAPS allrounder Corey Anderson will return to New Zealand on Friday to begin rehabilitation on the rib injury which ruled him out of the second ODI against Sri Lanka.

Anderson underwent an MRI scan of his side on Wednesday, which ruled out any major damage. He will now miss the final ODI and two Twenty20s against Sri Lanka as a precautionary measure and receive further management back in New Zealand.

BLACKCAPS Physiotherapist Paul Close said: "Corey felt pain in his right side while bowling during the first ODI. Post-match assessment indicated a minor case of rib impingement.  We decided it’s in Corey’s best interest to return home and focus on making a full recovery for the ANZ International Series against the West Indies."

As previously scheduled, Neil Broom joined the team in Dambulla on Wednesday. No other replacement will be sent for the remaining matches.
