All-rounders take out women’s MVP titles

White Ferns Nicola Browne and Suzie Bates were acknowledged for their stunning performances during the domestic and international season over the weekend when they received their Mitre 10 MVP awards.

Suzie Bates won the international Mitre 10 MVP award for her performances during the Rose Bowl series on home soil. She was surprised to have won but thrilled her contributions have been recognised. “It was amazing winning the $1500 Mitre 10 voucher. I’m still thinking about what I’m going to do with it!” she said.

At the first Twenty20 game at Westpac Stadium Bates opened the batting and went on to make 48, her hightest score during the Twenty20s in New Zealand. Across the three ODIs Bates made 84 runs, with 61 in the second ODI. The right hand medium pacer also chipped in with five wickets during the series, including three for 24 in the second Twenty20 game.

“It was nice having my batting performances being recognised and it’s an honour to be the MVP for this series,” she said. “But other players performed well too. Sophie Devine had an awesome season.”
