Aldridge breaks bowling record

Yahoo!Xtra Northern Knights bowler Graeme Aldridge has broken the record for the most wickets in the New Zealand domestic One-Day competition.

The record was held by former Canterbury Wizard and BLACKCAP Chris Harris with 138 and was surpassed by Aldridge. The Knights right-arm fast bowler only needed 11 wickets at the start of this year’s One-Day competition to take over Harris.

Northern Districts Cricket CEO David Cooper said today “this is a fantastic accolade for Graeme, who has been a long serving member of the Knights team and it’s a huge achievement for him. He’s been a loyal team member and one that the coaching staff can always count on to stand up and deliver. We are very proud of his efforts.”

Aldridge secured the top spot during the weekend’s preliminary semi-final against the Otago Volts when he dismissed Volts batsman Neil Broom for 17 in the eleventh over.

Chris Harris took 20 years to secure the top spot, while it has only taken Aldridge 12 seasons to chase down the record.
