Wizards stun Volts with six wicket win

An electric half century from Shannan Stewart helped the Canterbury Wizards to a six wicket win over HRV Cup leaders the Otago Volts at the University Oval, Dunedin.

The Wizards batting line up went about chasing the hefty total of 185 with relative ease.  Five of the six batsmen contributed with Stewarts blistering innings of 56 off 33 the best of the bunch.  His knock included five boundaries and three sixes.

Captain Peter Fulton struck 39 with an unbeaten fifth wicket partnership of 40 off only 15 balls between Craig McMillan and Johannes Myburgh getting them home in style.

McMillan made a 29 off 18 while Myburgh faced just six deliveries for his 17 runs.

All of the Otago bowlers were peppered with Neil Wagner returning their best figures of three for 34.

Earlier, Brendon McCullum hit 64 off 44 and Craig Cumming 53 off 29 to steer the Volts to 185 for four.  McCullum, fresh from a century in his last match, hammered four boundaries and five massive sixes.

The four wickets to fall were shared between the Wizards bowlers with Carl Frauenstein finishing with economical figures of one for 28.

It is only the second win for the Canterbury Wizards who remain at the foot of the table while the loss sees a log jam at the top with the Otago Volts, Central Stags and Auckland Aces all on 20 points after eight rounds.
