Wilson’s 91 not enough for winless Knights

A blistering 91 off 53 deliveries by Brad Wilson wasn’t enough for the State Northern Knights, who remain winless in the State Twenty20 after losing to the State Otago Volts by 21 runs at the University Oval in Dunedin.

Otago made 191 for four after being put into bat with Northern making 170 for eight in reply.

The Volts got off to a flyer with Aaron Redmond smashing 80 off 51 and fellow opener Hamish Rutherford whacking 27 off 16.

Dimitri Mascarenhas was in sublime touch reaching 50 off 30 before holing out in the 19th over.

Joseph Yovich and Bruce Martin were once again the best of the Northern attack with two for 35 and two for 34 respectively.   Yovich has 12 wickets for the season and remains at the top of the State Twenty20 MVP rankings despite being losing five in a row.

Wilson’s 91 was the standout performance for the Knights but he had little support.  Daniel Flynn was next best with 35 not out.

Craig Cumming returned the impressive figures of four for 24 in his first State Twenty20 match after returning from the BLACKCAPS tour of Australia.

Neil Wagner was tidy with one for 21 off his four overs.

The Otago Volts have won four of their five matches and sit at the top of the State Twenty20 table.
