White Ferns slump to fifth straight loss

The White Ferns lost today’s One-Day International match against the Australian Southern Stars by 103 runs as the home side extended their winning streak to five at Junction Oval in Melbourne.

Play was reduced to 45 overs per side after a delayed start with Australia putting on 240 for eight after winning the toss and opting to bat and then dismissing the White Ferns for 137 in 34 overs.

All rounder Nicola Browne was the best of the White Ferns batsmen with 37 but the scorecard was dominated by the low scores.

Leg spinner Shelley Nitschke was outstanding, taking four for 24 with opening bowler Ellyse Perry snaring three for 33.

Rachael Haynes' 75 not out from 74 deliveries was the standout performance in Australia's reply.

Nitschke was also in good form with the bat hitting 43 while Jess Cameron (33) and Perry (30) made useful contributions.

Medium pacer Abby Burrows toiled away and was rewarded with three wickets for 27 runs with Sian Ruck chipping in with two for 32.

The series now switches to Twenty20 mode with three matches at Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
