White Ferns level the Rose Bowl series

Sara McGlashan hit 43 not out and Kate Broadmore took three wickets for 15 runs to lead the White Ferns to a 19 runs victory over Australia in the third match of the Rose Bowl Series at Queens Park, Invercargill.

Broadmore got the crucial breakthrough of Leah Poulton for 27 after Australia made a decent start as they tried to chase down the White Fern’s total of 138 for six. The visitors we bowled out for 119 with one over to spare.

Captain Aimee Watkins also has a fine night with the ball, picking up just the one wicket but only conceding 14 runs from her four overs.

Earlier, Watkins and Suzie Bates got the team off to a flyer, with a first wicket stand of 44 off 4.1 overs.  Watkins was particularly ruthless, clobbering three boundaries and a six in her 24 run blitz.

Bates hit a more restrained 33 off 40 before McGlashan propelled the total with her hard hit 43 off 29 deliveries.

The first two matches of the Rose Series were played late last year with the first match rained out and the second going to Australia by four wickets.  The teams play again at the same venue tomorrow.
