Wellington scored their second big victory in a row, crushing Central Districts by 93 runs in the round two Provincial A match in Lincoln.
A Josh Brodie century lifted Wellington to 300 for five from their 50 overs, before the boys from the capital limited Central to 207 all out after 47 overs.
Their pursuit never really obtained the momentum, with a number of promising starts fizzling out early. David Meiring was the best of the top-order with 36, but he like everyone else couldn’t push on.
At 147 for nine it looked a little embarrassing for Central , but a resilient 43 not out from number 11 Joseph O’Connor made it a remarkably more respectable scoreline and got them past 200.
Barry Rhodes was dangerous with the ball for Wellington and picked up a four wicket bag in his eight overs for 29 runs.
In the first innings, it was a similar story to yesterday, with the opening partnership of Brodie and Ben Orton once again proving to difficult remove.
They didn’t produce the double century stand they made yesterday, but did add 140 before last night’s centurion Orton was dismissed for 82.
Having missed out last time, it was Brodie’s turn to shine today and he did so brilliantly, bringing up his century off 130 balls. It was a fine knock and went a long way to setting Central an imposing target.
Stephen Murdoch (43) and Harry Boam (40) also added valuable runs to the sheet as Wellington finished with a flat 300.
Andrew Lamb was once again strong with the ball in hand and finished with figures of three for 42 from ten overs. While it may not have won him the match, it did keep on top of the competition’s wicket-taking tally.
