Wellington have won their final Twenty20 game of the Provincial A tournament by restricting Canterbury to a 22 run loss at Lincoln.
Henry Nicholls (51) did all he could for Canterbury but the Wellington total was too much and Canterbury were all out for 138.
Wellington opted to bat first and were looking strong at 62 for one. Michael Pappas finally found some form and made 36 while Captain Josh Brodie chipped in with 28.
The next substantial partnership was between Stephen Murdoch and Barry Rhodes.
Murdoch top-scored with 38 and Rhodes contributed 30 to see their side finish with a respectable total of 159 for six at the end of 20 overs.
Carl Frauenstein was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up two wickets in his three overs.
In reply Canterbury found some help from their top-order, but the lower-order didn’t perform.
The best partnership from the innings was between Todd Astle (30) and Nicholls who got their side off to a solid start.
Nicholls has been in good form all tournament and looked to be leading his side to victory, but his departure showed a gaping hole in the Canterbury middle and lower-order.
The home side will be disappointed they couldn’t finish off with a win, especially in the position they found themselves after the first ten overs.
Wellington were eventual winners by 22 runs.
