Wellington Blaze win tight match

The Wellington Blaze have completed back to back wins over defending champions the Canterbury Magicians in a repeat of last years one-day final.

Batting first the Magicians made 202 largely thanks to Frankie Mackay hitting 78 at the top of the order and Maria Fahey finishing the innings off with an unbeaten 67.

It was a shaky start to the run chase for Wellington with thier first four batsman back in the hut with only 45 runs on the board.

A middle order fight back by Sophie Devine and Elizabeth Perry wrestled back the momentum and set up the stunning five wicket win with three balls to spare.

Devine made an impressive unbeaten 67 with Perry contributing 49 not out.  The Magicians can look at the 42 extras they conceded as the difference between the two sides.

Amy Satterthwaite was the best of the Canterbury line up with three for 32.

The result puts the Wellington Blaze firmly at the top of the table after two rounds with the Canterbury Magicians propping up the table in last place.
