Volts secure home final

The State Otago Volts have finished top of the State Twenty20 table after beating the State Auckland Aces at Eden Park’s Outer Oval.

The loss sees the Aces miss out on a finals berth after finishing on equal points with the State Canterbury Wizards but behind on run-rate.

The Volts put on 163 after being put into bat with captain Craig Cumming leading from the front with 76 off 46 including six fours and five sixes.

Brendon McCullum returned from BLACKCAPS duty and was next best with a handy 26 off 18.

Azhar Abbas was the pick of the Aces attack with two for 20 off his four with Greg Morgan taking two for 31.

Auckland had a terrible start to their chase being three for three after 1.3 overs and ended with 121 for seven – 42 runs short of their target.

English import Steven Croft was the only Aces batsman to make an impression with 55 off 50.

Matthew Harvie and Ian Butler bagged two apiece for the Volts with Nathan McCullum returning the impressive figures of one for 16 off his four including a maiden over.
