Vivian seals win for the Aces

The State Auckland Aces have racked up their second win in as many games as they chased down 185 against the State Central Stags at Pukekura Park in New Plymouth.

Central made a solid start after being put into bat, being 45 without loss after 4.3 but the loss of Peter Ingram for 36 off 19 sparked a mini collapse that saw the home side fall to 87 for six.

New Twenty20 international player Ewen Thompson then took it to the Auckland attack making 59 off 37 including five fours and three sixes.

Jamie How showed that he is returning to form with 32 off 14.

Pakistan born Azhar Abbas took two for 43 for Auckland, including the dangerous Ingram and Thompson.  Colin de Grandhomme returned two for 36.

The Aces chased down the total with six wickets in hand and seven balls to spare.

Skipper Richard Jones struck a fine 63 off 46 at the top of the order including five fours and three sixes but it was Luke Vivian who smashed the Aces home.

It was a remarkable knock from Vivian who hit six sixes in his unbeaten 55 using only 18 balls.

Central top scoring batsman, Thompson, was also their best bowler with two for 37.

The defending State Twenty20 champions are yet to record a win after two rounds and need a change of fortunes if they are to retain their title.
