Stags move back into top spot

The Canterbury Wizards slumped to their fourth loss after five rounds of the HRV Cup, going down by six wickets to the Central Stags Aorangi Oval, Timaru.

An 88 run partnership between Mathew Sinclair and Ross Taylor was the cornerstone of the run chase that saw the Stags surpass the Canterbury total of 162 with over an over to spare.

Taylor was particularly brutal, striking a blistering 53 off 27 balls including six boundaries and two sixes.

Sinclair hit and unbeaten 54 off 41 to guide Central to victory and more importantly, back to the top of the HRV Cup table.

Opening bowler Chris Martin returned the best figures for the home team of two for 26.

Earlier, Wizards captain Peter Fulton put his team in a good position with 43 from 27 balls with Shannan Stewart making 35 from 24.  Johannes Myburgh then finished the innings off with a brisk 28.

English import, Graeme Napier picked up two wickets but went for 34 and now sits second on the HRV Cup MVP.  Overall MVP leader, Michael Mason returned the economical figures of none for 22.
