Sparks topple Hinds in Twenty20

The Otago Sparks have beaten the Central Hinds by nine wickets in a match which was reduced to 18 overs per side at McLean Park, Napier.

The Hinds put on 101 for four in their allocated overs, but couldn’t hold off the Sparks as they easily surpassed that total in 13.1 overs.

Sarah Tsukigawa was the anchor in the pursuit, putting on an unbeaten 66 from just 47 balls. It included nine fours and a six and went a long way to ensuring the southerners the victory.

At her side was Suzie Bates, who maintained her excellent form with an unbeaten 34 from 33 balls. On the back of her knock of 160 last round, Bates looks to be in ominous form leading into the Rose Bowl in Australia.

Earlier the Hinds had put together a modest total, with a number of individuals making starts.

Sara McGlashan top scored with 30, while Kate Broadmore also made an impact with 28. Three other batsmen made double figures to help the Hinds surpass 100.

Unfortunately they didn’t count on the 105 run partnership which would follow...
