Spark on the board after beating Magicians

The Otago Sparks have registered their first points in the Women’s Twenty20 competition after beating the Canterbury Magicians in a rain affected match at University Oval, Dunedin.

Sarah Tsukigawa hit three boundaries and a six to top score for Otago with 23.  Extra’s were next best with 15.

The home side stuttered through to 81 after a delayed start reduced the match to 14 overs per innings.

Leg spinner, Erin Bermingham, was the pick of the Canterbury attack taking two for 10 off her three overs with captain Amy Satterthwaite claiming two for 16.

Michelle Mitchell got the Magicians off to a great start with a run-a-ball 26 but a string of wickets at the other end kept the run rate creeping up and they eventually fell 11 runs short.

Emma Campbell was outstanding with the ball, taking two wickets but more importantly only conceding nine runs off her three overs.
