Solid 42 run win for Wizards

The Canterbury Wizards showed good early form with a tidy 42 run win over the Northern Knights at Seddon Park in Hamilton.

Wizards opener Rob Nicol played the anchor role with 85 off 102 before Shannan Stewart came in an lashed 97 from 80.

Stewart hit the fence six times and cleared it just as many before being run out three short of his fourth One-Day century.

A lively 46 off 29 from captain Kruger van Wyk carried Canterbury to 296 for seven.

The wickets were shared among the Northern line up with Graeme Aldridge, Joseph Yovich and Bruce Martin taking two apiece.

The Northern openers set a solid 143 run platform but the lose of Watling for 80 sparked a collapse that saw them loss eight wicket for 33 runs.

Watling’s opening partner Parlane was the fifth wicket to fall on 63 with Bruce Martin (37) and James Marshall (37*) putting together a late fight back, but it was too little too late.

Nineteen year old Corey Anderson was outstanding taking a career best five for 26, including the match turning wicket of Watling.
