Second ANZ ODI abandoned

Second ANZ ODI abandoned

The second ANZ ODI between the West Indies and the BLACKCAPS has been abandoned without a ball being bowled, after persistent rain made conditions too dangerous to play on.

Having rained for most of the morning, the drizzle continued into the afternoon much to the crowd's dismay. At around 3.30pm the rain showed some reprieve, but the surface water on the ground made it clear that play was still some time away.

After checking the ground, the umpires concluded that player safety would be put at risk should they play and called off the match.

It's frustrating for players and fans, who will now have to wait until New Year's Day in Queenstown for the third ODI.
