The BLACKCAPS have lost to Pakistan by six wickets in their second Super Eight match of the ICC World Twenty20 at The Oval in London.
In the pre-match interview captain Daniel Vettori stated that 180 would be a good score. The BLACKCAPS were 81 runs short of that target making only 99 – their lowest Twenty20 total.
It all started well for the BLACKCAPS with 14 runs coming from the first over but the dismissal of Brendon McCullum sparked a collapse that saw them lose their next nine wickets for only 85 runs.
Scott Stryis looked to consolidate the inning and grafted his way to 22 but an outstanding running catch in the outfield by Shahid Afridi saw him return to the pavilion.
Aaron Redmond was next best with 15 and McCullum was the only other batsman to reach double figures with 12.
Pakistani quick Umar Gul was unplayable and became the first bowler to take five wickets in a Twenty20 finishing with figures of five for 6 off three overs. Abdul Razzaw chimed in with two for 17 off 3.3.
The Pakistan batsmen comfortably chased down the total with 29 balls to spare.
Nineteen year old opening batsman Shahzaib Hasan top scored with 35 off 28 with Shahid Afridi next best with 29 off 18.
Vettori, playing his first match of the ICC World Twenty20, was the best of the BLACKCAPS attack taking two for 20 off his four overs.
The BLACKCAPS next match is a must-win encounter against Sri Lanka on 16 June at 1:30pm (UK time), 12:30 a.m (NZ time).
