Northern end brightly

Northern Districts finished off their campaign at the National Under 18 tournament with a 15 run win against hosts Canterbury.

Northern posted a very competitive 179 for eight from their 20 overs and were good enough to restrict Canterbury to 164 for four to finish on a high note.

Northern opted to bat first and were solid from the get go as they made 69 for the first wicket.

It got even better for them though as Thomas MacRury came in and made an unbeaten 50 from 36 balls. He was alongside Anish Desai who continued his fantastic form with 48 to get Northern to an imposing 179 for four at the end of twenty overs.

In reply Canterbury had a number of batsmen contribute to the chase, but none more so than David Wakefield who played sensibly for 57. He was helped by 42 from Leo carter and 30 from Ben ward, but all in all it wasn’t enough.

The required run-rate was too much and at the end of twenty overs Canterbury were still 15 runs behind at 164 for four.

It was a match that had very little bearing on anything, but Northern can leave having finished on a high note.
